Daily Weighing
The Key to Weight Loss Success

Health care professionals used to recommend against weighing yourself more than once every week or so. There were two main reasons for this:

  1. Older-style "analog" scales were not very reliable. Back-to-back readings could vary by a pound, or more.

  2. Your body weight changes from hour to hour, and day to day. Fluctuations of 1-5 pounds are common, even when you are successfully managing your weight. Because of this, comparing any two weigh-ins doesn't really mean much (unless they are taken months apart).

Fortunately, the first issue has been addressed with the availability of modern digital scales - the new models are very accurate and consistent.

The second issue has been addressed by WeightWare! Every time you log your weight, WeightWare will analyze your recent weight history using some of the same mathematical techniques used in scientific reasearch and stock market analysis. This allows you to ignore the day-to-day fluctuations (which can be deceiving), and see your true underlying trend. In particular, each time you log your weight in WeightWare your recent daily energy balance will be calculated, as shown here:

Your daily energy balance can help you to lose weight

Starting your day off with this critical piece of information lets you make the small adjustments in diet and exercise that will get your weight loss program in gear and keep it on track. In recent studies conducted by the National Weight Control Registry "frequent weighing" was identified as one of the behaviors associated with long-term, successful weight loss. Now, using WeightWare, you can easily incorporate this powerful technique into your own weight loss program.

Note: you don't have to weigh yourself every day to use WeightWare - the more data points it has, the better it will be able to analyze your trends. However, if you miss a day or two, don't worry - WeightWare will automatically fill in estimates for the days you missed the next time you log your weight.
